Furano Ski Resort
Hokkaido, Japan
Furano
ski
resort
has
long
groomers
that
will
test
even
those
with
the
most
conditioned
legs
which
is
one
of
the
reasons
it
is
sometimes
utilized
in
the
ski
world
cup
comps.
It
also
has
a
big
vertical,
one
of
the
biggest
in
Hokkaido
with
both
a
ropeway
and
gondola
to
get
you
nearly
all
the
way
from
top
to
bottom.
It
has
2
sides,
the
Furano
side
and
the
Kitanomine
zone
joined
only
at
the
top
and
the
Furano
side
having
the
higher
altitude.
Furano
allows
very
little
off
piste
skiing
unless
you
are
on
an
organized
tour,
and
the
patrol
are
well
known
for
chasing
down
offenders
who
jump
ropes
(and
there
are
ropes
everywhere)
and
confiscating
lift
passes.
You
have
been
warned.
Being
well
away
from
the
coast
it
sees
a
lot
less
snow
than
coastal
resorts
such
as
Niseko
so
it
is
probably
not
going
to
as
popular
with
powder
hounds.
On
the
upside,
this
resort
sees
very
few
foreigners
so
has
a
real
authentic
Japanese
vibe
to
it.
Both
of
the
multi
day,
multi
resort
tours
on
the left often visit Furano.
